Maine Medical Center launches internal startup accelerator
Maine Medical Center is betting its employees have innovative ideas that, if given the chance to bloom, could transform healthcare. To provide such an opportunity, the hospital is launching an internal startup accelerator for physicians and other employees who have ideas for new products and services. The goal, if all goes as planned, will be to develop new products and services and spin off private companies to develop them. The program is the brainchild of Jennifer Monti, a cardiologist at Maine Med, as well as co-founder of a medical-device startup.

Tues., Nov. 21 — 5:30-8 p.m. at Cloudport in Portland
Bitcoin, blockchain, Ethereum, smart contracts, ICOs... you may have read about these or heard the terms tossed around, but chances are you still have questions about what it all means and how it'll affect your everyday life. If so, this event is for you. We'll walk through the basics, explaining how it all came about and the real-world applications of a decentralized digital currency and blockchain technology, before getting out our laptops and helping those interested to set up digital wallets and trade some fake ether (or real, if you're really ready to dive in). This event is brought to you by Maine Startups Insider and the Portland Blockchain/Ethereum Developers Group. More details.
